During the time I’ve known and worked with Scott on numerous stories for Woman’s Day magazine, or watched his uncanny psychic detective skills on TV’s Sensing Murder, I’ve learned to take him seriously. I’ve heard tapes from his Adelaide radio show that prove he foretold Princess Diana’s death, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks down to the month, years before they happened. Somehow, Scott pinpointed that the Princess would be killed in Paris before her 40th birthday. Somehow he prophesied that the World Trade Centre would be struck from the air, with catastrophic results. And those are just a couple of examples of the mysterious power that descended on Scott following a near-death experience when he drowned as a child.

It sounds spooky, and it is, but there’s nothing ethereal about him in person. Down-to-earth Scott doesn’t waft around trailing Indian scarves reeking of patchouli oil, or make airy-fairy utterances. He’s a big, burly bloke with the sort of deep brown voice that makes him a natural as a radio announcer, which is where he started out. On one hand he has a wickedly hilarious, irreverent, sense of humour. On the other hand he is solidly grounded and teaches karate several times a week - when he’s not giving readings to his many clients, some of them world-famous celebrities.

But their secrets are safe with Scott, who recognises that his extraordinary gift brings great responsibilities in its wake. Unravelling the truth of unsolved murders – and bringing closure to grief-stricken families - is just one of them.

I still can’t come close to explaining how Scott does what he does. He can’t fully explain it either. But having played Dr Watson to his Sherlock Holmes for close to a decade, I’m sure there’s something going on.

Working as a DJ Scott became a bit of a celebrity magnet. After interviews with Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Cher and Shirley Bassey, he found they would open up in private, seeking his psychic advice. “I’d either be invited back to their concert or out to dinner and they’d end up spilling their guts,” laughs Scott. “Whether it was having pizza with Billy Joel or going backstage at Elton John’s concert or sitting on a couch, talking about life and spirituality with Tina Turner, these people embraced me as someone they could open up to.”
